Veterans Memorial Air Park at Meacham Airport opens July 18
The facility is at 3300 Ross Ave. on the south end of Meacham Airport, west of Main Street off Long Avenue. It will be open to visitors Mondays and Wednesdays 9 a.m. to noon; Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sundays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fort Worth breaks ground on new fire station south of downtown
Station 5’s history dates to the late 1800s, when it was formed as a volunteer fire brigade. The first station was built in 1890 near the 400 block of Bryan Avenue. A second station was built in 1911 near the same location.

Winter weather affecting City of Fort Worth operations, events
Due to deteriorating winter weather conditions, City of Fort Worth offices and services will close today at 5 p.m. Community centers will remain open until 6 p.m. and any facilities conducting privately scheduled events will remain open. Additionally, City of Fort Worth offices and facilities will delay opening until noon Friday. Fire and police emergency services continue as usual, and street operations will continue around the clock. Garbage collection and other services, as well as some meetings, are also affected Thursday and Friday.

Rosedale Street connector ramps, West Vickery to close temporarily
Beginning June 1, crews will temporarily close West Vickery Boulevard between University Drive and the eastbound I-30 entrance ramp, which runs under the Rosedale Street connector bridges, for up to 72 hours for bridge demolition. Traffic to eastbound I-30 will be detoured along Rosedale Street and Forest Park Boulevard.

Heavy snow causing extensive tree damage across the city
City of Fort Worth work crews will begin barricading damaged trees that are blocking streets or are posing a safety hazard to the public. Work crews that typically respond to reports of trees blocking roadways are being used around the clock to keep up with street sanding, and the number of calls for service has exceeded the City’s resources available for these operations.

Many neighborhoods in Fort Worth were impacted by the record snowfall and are experiencing broken tree limbs and downed trees. Residents can help the collection process by cutting, bundling and stacking tree limbs and keeping brush and yard waste separate from other bulky piles. This will allow collection crews to dispose of debris as quickly as possible.

The balanced budget keeps all public libraries open and includes funding to maintain all after school and late night community center programs. Expenditures are set at $528.4 million in the city’s General Fund. Combine that with the other enterprise and debt service funds, and the entire budget totals $1.2 billion. This represents a 2.1 percent increase from the current fiscal year.

Earth Fountain Granite Sculpture Arrives in Fort Worth Today
Earth Fountain, a nine-foot orb carved from granite by Austin artist Philippe Klinefelter, will arrive Tuesday in Fort Worth after making a four-hour journey up Interstate 35W. The sculpture, a Fort Worth Public Art project, will be placed in Byers Green Park on Camp Bowie Boulevard at Eldridge Street. Once installed, a fountain of water will flow from three openings in the orb’s hollowed center.

Earth Fountain Granite Sculpture Coming Soon to Byers Green
A public art project by artist Philippe Klinefelter will soon grace Byers Green, the triangular green space at the intersection of Byers Avenue and Camp Bowie Boulevard.
