The Executive Services Division is under the direction of Deputy Chief Fernando Gonzalez. The division includes the Bureau of Fire Prevention, Fire Safety Education, Fire Investigation, Explosive Ordinance Disposal, and Internal Affairs.
Chief Gonzalez, a native of Mexico City, has lived in Fort Worth since the age of 12 and is a graduate of Nolan Catholic High School. He joined the Fort Worth Fire Department in November 1979. During his career in the Operations Division he was promoted to Engineer (1983), Lieutenant (1987), and Captain (1993). In 1995 he volunteered for a staff position as the supervisory Captain over Fire Investigation and Explosive Ordinance Disposal. In 1996 he was promoted to Battalion Chief and became the Unit Commander of the section, adding supervision of the Internal Affairs Unit to his responsibilities. He was appointed to Deputy Chief in November 2006.
Gonzalez is a certified rescue diver, a state certified Emergency Medical Technician, and holds certification with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection as a Firefighter, Arson Investigator, and Hazardous Materials Technician. He is also a certified Peace Officer with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education. Additionally, he was trained and certified by the Federal Bureau of investigation as a Bomb Technician. He has also received advanced explosive device training at the British Army School of Ammunition located in Warwickshire, England.
Gonzalez holds a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership and a Master of Science in Strategic Leadership from Mountain State University. He currently serves on the City of Fort Worth’s Integrity and Accountability Review Committee, the Fort Worth City Credit Union - Board of Directors, and formerly chaired the Fire Department Grievance Committee.
