Join ‘Big Cat’ and tee it up to support pet adoption
Revised July 13, 2010
Help support the City of Fort Worth’s efforts to increase the adoption of shelter pets by supporting the 5th Annual Dog Days of Summer Golf Classic.
The golf tournament, supported through the Rayfield Wright Foundation, will be held July 17 at Bear Creek Golf Course adjacent to DFW Airport. Dallas Cowboys legend Rayfield “Big Cat” Wright, a proponent of pet adoption, is participating in the event along with a few of his friends. Proceeds from the event will benefit the City of Fort Worth’s adoption center located inside the PetSmart at 4800 S.W. Loop 820, near the Hulen Street intersection.
The pet adoption center opened in May 2010 and was made possible through a first-of-its kind partnership with PetSmart Charities, PetSmart, Inc., and a group of local donors. The City operates the facility which houses up to 38 dogs and cats and includes an acitivity area and get-acquainted rooms where visitors can spend time getting to know an animal before deciding whether to adopt them. Pets can also still be adopted at the Fort Worth Animal Care and Control Center, 4900 Martin St.
Approximately 4,500 adoptable pets end up in the City shelter each year, but since the unique PetSmart adoption center opened in May, every single adoptable pet that has come through the City’s animal shelter has found a home.
The Rayfield Wright Dog Days of Summer Golf Classic begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. and costs $400 per four-player team. To register, call tournament organizers at 817-501-5179 or e-mail bigcat@RayfieldWright.com.
